5 Miutes with Jeanne St. James
Bio short from website www.jeannestjames.com
I started writing around 13 years old and found it great therapy. Over my high school years I wrote my first novel, a young adult novel, that was pretty raw about a young girl growing up in a gang. That manuscript is now forever lost (and that might be a good thing). During this time I read loads of books, most of them historical romances and category romances (contemporary). I fell in love with the genre. And have been writing ever since…
I now concentrate on the erotic romance genre. Why? Because it’s a blast. There’s nothing like a hot, hot romance to get your juices flowing. But I still like the HEA (Happily Ever After) ending.
I currently reside in Southcentral Pennsylvania with my dog and the love of my life (yes, he has two legs, not four).
My first published erotica piece was a fantasy short story in the July 2006 issue of Playgirl, which was titled “The Hot Ride.” You can find it on my Free Reads page.
“5 Minutes with…” is a section of the blog that is a a set of questions that are pretty much the same give or take a few. That are meant for us to get to know our favorite authors a little bit more. Some are funny, some have nothing to do with their books; while others hopefully get to the “nitty-gritty” of what the author is thinking. Now let’s give a Naughty Chick welcome to Jeanne St. James.
What project are you currently working on? (C’mon, give us a hint!)
Well, I have two projects I am working on and many more in the wings. I am working on an erotic modern day faery tale and also a holiday based story. However, I’ve been a bad girl and have been slacking.
What is your favorite snack?
Anything within reach. J
I have heard from numerous authors that chocolate is the staple of their diet. Is it in yours?
Actually no. I enjoy writing with a glass of wine or a mixed drink. It loosens me up. And once I am loosened up my imagination takes over. It really helps with writing erotic romance.
Will electronic readers ever take the place of the humble paperback?
Yes, I think eventually it will. We are in the digital age. Convenience and cost are huge factors.
When you have writer’s block how do you break free?
I force myself to write. Even if it is all junk. It can be fixed or deleted later.
Who is your perfect hero? And why?
The imperfect hero. I love damaged heroes, or damaged characters for that matter.
What do you do for inspiration?
I tend to watch movies and read good books. It just gets my creativity flowing.
Is there a genre of book you would like to write but haven’t yet?
Paranormal. But I have an idea or two I am working on.
What is your favorite movie of all time? The one where you can watch it and still get affected at the same spots each and every time?
I would have to say Hope Floats. I love Sandra Bullock (and really relate to her) and Harry Connick Jr. is perfect in the hero’s role.
What is your favorite way to relax after a hard day working and writing?
Watch a movie and have a drink.
Have you ever faked sick? Oh, yeah. *cough cough*
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Actually no. I think someone tends to grow on you. Love at first sight is kind of shallow. Of course, that’s just my opinion.
What is your perfect pizza?
A white pizza loaded (I mean LOADED) with veggies and garlic on whole grain crust. Unfortunately I can no longer tolerate dairy so I had to cut cheese out of my diet. L
If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
To my pen name. I love it.
Out of all your books, do you have a favorite one? If not, then which one is closest to.
Yes, Double Dare (which is coming out with Loose Id in January 2010). It’s my first ménage (m/m/f) and I loved writing it. It was so much fun and the fastest I ever wrote a book.
What character out of all your books is the closest to your personality?
I would have to say Amanda from my Brothers in Blue series, which is not out yet NOR finished. I have some info about that series on my website.
Have you ever been nervous over reader reaction when a new book comes out?
I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t. I want people to love reading my stories as much as I loved writing them.
How much does reader response mean to you over your books?
Oh, it’s huge. I want my readers to like my work so they look forward to the next story.
What is the weirdest thing a reviewer has ever said about one of your books?
That the sex in it wasn’t descriptive and it was vanilla. Oh my, I’ve heard that is far from the truth. It’s not vanilla and I love being descriptive in my sex scenes. I guess everyone has their own opinion. Maybe that reviewer likes a lot of kink. Who knows?
What is the nicest thing a reviewer has ever said about one of your books?
Well, I got a personal email from one of my reviewers saying how much she liked Banged Up (out now with Liquid Silver Books). I was super thrilled!!! Oh, and she gave it a great review.
What is your favorite color besides YELLOW? Black.
Boxers or briefs? Oh, boxer briefs, actually!
I want to thank Jeanne for taking the time to spend with us and letting us get to know her a little better.
