“5 Minutes with…” is a section of the blog that is a a set of questions that are pretty much the same give or take a few. That are meant for us to get to know our favorite authors a little bit more. Some are funny, some have nothing to do with their books; while others hopefully get to the “nitty-gritty” of what the author is thinking. Now let’s give a Naughty Chick welcome to Susan Kearney.

What project are you currently working on? (C’mon, give us a hint!)  LOL!  I’m not working right now.

What is your favorite snack? Chocolate.

Will electronic readers ever take the place of the humble paperback?  I think so.  It will probably take a device that will read every format and have to come down in price.  But paper and shipping is too expensive to continue when we have other alternatives.

If you could be one of your characters – Who would you be?  And why?  I really wouldn’t want to be any of my characters.  I always put their lives and hearts in danger.  Now that’s fun to read but I wouldn’t want to live that life.

Who or what influences you when you write?  Hmm.  You know not much influences me.  That’s probably why my stories tend to be “different.”  For example my dragons are “good” and my women can morph into dragons.  From what I gather, most writers are doing their stories the other way around.

When you have writer’s block how do you break free? I don’t seem to get writer’s block.  I have lots of ideas.  But sometimes I write myself into a corner and then I call Julie Leto or Charlotte Douglas or Jeanie Legendre my critique partners.

Who is your perfect hero?  And why?  There is no such thing as a perfect man. J Okay, I couldn’t resist.  But seriously, who could fall in love with a superhero?  My men are sexy and strong and they also have flaws.  None of them are perfect.  Perfection is boring.

What do you do for inspiration? Sports.  I figure skate and dance.  Both activities flood me with endorphins and clear the mind to write.

Is there a genre of book you would like to write but haven’t yet?  I’d love to sell a YA SF book.

What kind of research do you do for your books?  Do you enjoy the research process?  I hate research.  So I do as little as possible.  Luckily my general science basics are pretty good.  I took lots of biology, physics, chemistry and astronomy in college.  However, if I need to do research, I will do it.  But my focus is the romance and the characters and that’s where I like to spend my story telling time.

What is your favorite movie of all time?  Independence Day.  I like the action, the humor and the characters who never give up.

What is your favorite way to relax after a hard day working and writing?  I like to exercise, go out for dinner and then chill in front of the tv.  Then I like to head to bed with my husband and . . .

What is the one era you would love to go visit and why?  The future.  We already know a lot about the past.  But the future is full of possibilities.  Which is why I set my stories in the future—anything could happen.  Aliens could come visit us.  We might learn to manipulate our biology and live 300 years.  Or learn to breathe under water and colonize the oceans.

Do you believe in love at first sight?  Love no.  Attraction and chemistry—yes.  Love takes a bit longer.

What is your perfect pizza? Pineapple.

Out of all your books, do you have a favorite one?  I have two favorites, The CHALLENGE and JORDAN.   The Challenge was the first book I ever wrote and the 38th published.  JORDAN is about a 1500 year old hero who’s on a mission to save the galaxy.  Both men are alphas.  So are both heroines.  It makes for lots of conflict and excitement.  And hot sex.

Have you ever been nervous over reader reaction when a new book comes out?  I’m always nervous about sales.  I already know some readers will love the book and some won’t.  It’s a question of numbers.  I’m always worried readers won’t find the book, won’t realize I have a new book out, or the store will be out of stock.

How much does reader response mean to you over your books?  This means the most to me.  Without reader support, I couldn’t continue to write.

What is the weirdest thing a reviewer has ever said about one of your books?  This one cracked me up.  Now bear in mind I write futuristic romance, sometimes called space opera.  Recently PW said the only readers who would like my book are lovers of space opera.  But that is what I write!

What is the nicest thing a reviewer has ever said about one of your books?  I really liked a quote that said I wrote a great book on any planet!

Do you have a bucket list? If so, what are 2 things on it?  Oh, yes.  I want to travel to every country.  And I want to take an RV trip across the US.

What is your favorite color besides YELLOW?  LOL!  I don’t even like yellow.  I like red, black and white.

Boxers or briefs?  Commando.

I want to thank Susan for doing this Q&A for us. She is an awesome author I think everyone should check out.
