Review: Hush by Amarinda Jones

Hush

by Amarinda Jones

Eliza McQuade is tired of her boring existence. She wants more out of life. She craves dirty sex with strangers. The way to get it? Give in to her wildest desires and let go of the good girl inside.

Tobias Renfrew is more than happy to help Eliza smash her inhibitions with a little help from his friends. He sees nothing wrong in guiding the insatiable lust Eliza has in order to make her happy.

Eliza McQuade is bored with her life and dying to give into her secret fantasies…  but will the reality prove to be more than she can handle?

Tobias is all about control and looking for a good time.  But, uh oh, looks like his feelings (FEELINGS?!) may be changing as he starts getting to know the lovely Australian Beauty.

If you are put off by bondage, public sex, and/or multiple partners of bi-sexual orientation at once this is not the story for you.  If this type of fantasy grips you though…  you are in for a treat.

While I do realize that this story was pretty much all about the sex, I have to say that I did enjoy Eliza’s internal sarcastic chatter.  There wasn’t a whole lot in the way of character development, but really… that is not what a person reads a story like this for, so were you to complain about it I would refer you to War and Peace and tell you to shut the hell up.  If you are reading it because this brand of story gets you going, your husband/boyfriend/BOB is going to have a very good night!

Review: Atlantis Redeemed by Alyssa Day

ATLANTIS REDEEMED

by Alyssa Day ( Awesome lady BTW)

Warriors of Poseidon Book 5

March, 2010

Berkley Sensation

ISBN: 0425233030

Poseidon’s warriors have learned that the battle to protect humanity produces unexpected enemies–and alliances. But none more unexpected than the bond between a cursed Atlantean warrior and a woman whose sight surpasses any lie…

A warrior with no emotion …

Doomed by Poseidon millennia ago to live life bereft of feelings, Atlantean warrior Brennan’s curse is shattered when he meets Tiernan–a human with the ancient Gift of Truth Telling. Attraction turns deadly when the woman he could never forget becomes the woman he can never remember. With the fate of Atlantis on the line, will a warrior’s uncontrollable desire destroy the world?

A woman with an eye for the truth…

Tiernan’s job as an investigative reporter is perfectly suited to her unique ability to see through any falsehood. But when she discovers human scientists conducting hideous experiments on humans and shape-shifters alike, only a wildly sexy Atlantean can help protect her from the those determined to see her fail—and die. When the future of the world is at stake, can she overcome death itself so together they can protect mankind?

When truth and passion collide…Atlantis is redeemed.

I picked up this book this at 4:00 P.M. I finished it about 9:30 P.M. I cooked and cleaned during that time and not once was I really driven to let the family fend for them selves. I think my obsessiveness of characters and the story lines are starting to fade or this book was not the better of the ones I have already read. Don’t get me wrong I love the Warriors. Alpha males stuck in their set ways untill there true mate comes a calling them historical setback or something worst, sexist. But; I also like the drama and the excitement that goes with it. I love how all the stories are intertwined and together.

However in this book, we get some back story of the others, and some little bit of story weaving from the others but its prety blunt and almost cut and paste, except for Diedre and Daniel story line. I think their lives were carefully made aware of in all the books and they are supporting roles for each of the warriors.

What I really loved about this book is the woman didn’t fall on her knees to say yes to him the first time, she made him work for it. She was a paragon of strength and she did us, women, proud. Untill the end, I would have been scared crazy too.

Overall I reallly liked the Atlantis Redeemed. It had plot twists, intrigue, sex, and adventure. And best of all its HAWT guys from Atlantis, hell yeah I am all about that.

Review: Dance Like Nobody’s Watching By Luxie Ryder

Dance Like Nobody’s Watching

By Luxie Ryder

On a hit TV dancing competition, the dance floor isn’t the only place where things are heating up…

As the costume designer, Sherrie Alveston is in trouble when the trousers she made for Ty Webster, the superstar of the ballroom scene, split in a very unfortunate place. How is a woman supposed to concentrate when his delicious body and hungry eyes make her fumble with the needle? While she tackles with the delicate repair, Ty’s casual flirting leads to something far more intense.

But a sudden love connection always has its barriers, and Ty’s dance partner, Diana, is determined to stand in their way. Coping with a damaged leg after a devastating motorbike crash, Sherrie doesn’t think she can compete with the beautiful ice queen…until Ty is forced to take drastic measures and proves to her just how needed she really is.

Ty is a professional dancer on Strictly Ballroom ( *cough* Dancing With the Stars *cough cough*) Sherri is a seamstress for the show, Strictly Ballroom. She was involved in a bad motorcycle accident. And has a few insecurities about herself since then. And Ms. Ryder uses those insecurities to almost making Sherri seem pretty desperate. It’s almost like she has a Cinderella syndrome or something. And to make things worst I was a little put off by Ty’s approach to her, it made me feel like he knew she could get no better then him. Now please understand, when I read I have a tendency to put myself in the heroine’s position, always wondering how I would react if someone were saying these things to me.  And honestly, I probably would have raised and eyebrow and laughed at him for his audacity instead of giving myself the inner “SQUEE” like Sherrie did and romping off to the closest mattress.

I found the story between Ty and Sherri cute, but a little strange.  They have a one night stand… misunderstandings ensue.  Lots of “How could you THINK that about ME?!”  attitudes, which is strange since they pretty much just hopped into bed with each other.

This book isn’t something that would make me run out and buy all titles by the author, but I wouldn’t toss them out because she wrote them either.   That said, though I did an eye roll or two, I was entertained and willing to suspend my disbelief enough to just enjoy the story for what it was.

Review: Bound to Shadows by Keri Arthur

Bound to Shadows

By Keri Arthur

ISBN: 9780553591163

In the darkness, demons come out to play . . .
and someone must bring their sins to light.

Part vampire, part werewolf, Riley Jenson knows what can happen when vamps don’t play well with others. But she’s never seen anything like this: a series of brutal murders surrounding the latest hot spot for vampire-human hookups—and the victims aren’t just killed, they’re beheaded. Now Riley is launching into action, toying with a seductive—and highly suspicious—club owner, and finding herself in the middle of another mystery: women being killed one by one, without a trace of violence.

For Riley, solving multiple cases—in a world going mad with human and vampire passions—would have been tough enough. Instead she has two jealous lovers on her hands: Kye Murphy, the amber-eyed werewolf who makes Riley’s wolf blood howl—and Quinn, the cool, elegant vamp who has over a thousand years’ experience at fulfilling women’s desires. While she’s busy juggling these two sexy beasts, Riley’s detective work takes a stunningly violent turn. Finding a murderer is now a matter of life and death. Especially since the killer has long since found her . . .

Review:[Rating:5/5]

Ok so you all know I’m Australian and I love to tout Australian authors and their books.  The author who started the how paranormal/Urban fantasy for me is MS Arthur and I’m proud that she’s Australian.

I’ve been hanging out for this book because the series has been building and building to the finale.  One page in and I was sucked right back into the Riley universe.  In this book we see a more mature Riley who has reached a point where she is finally coming to terms with her dual natures.  She is in a settled relationship and is more able to concentrate on her work without being side tracked.  As we discovered in the last instalment, Riley has found her wolf soul mate and I really enjoyed that the conflict in the book was part of her work which her soul mate just happened to be front and centre of.

It’s hard to not give out spoilers but this next little bit might have one.  You know what; I really think the way Kye was portrayed was right.  I have had heated discussions with friends about this but, c’mon people, he’s an enforcer of types. He’s not going to be Mr New Age Man, Mr Sensitive and Sweet.  He is going to be seriously cold and calculating.  He is going to try and take advantage whenever and where ever he can. I would have been disappointed if he was suddenly transformed into a likeable character.

The ending sucker punched me and yes there was tear or ten but I have to give props to Ms Arthur for not being afraid to kill off a likeable semi main character.

There is no stagnation of the series even though it is now into book eight.  There are other authors out there who seem to putter and die around this point but Ms Arthur constantly raises the bar with each book.  While I know the next book, Moon Sworn is the final one, I feel happy and safe in the knowledge that Ms Arthur has other series on the boil. I am a diehard Keri Arthur fan, to the point I have at least two copies of every book just so I don’t run short when I lend one out to a friend, and can’t wait to see what she writes next.

Shape-shifting werewolf and vampire Riley Jenson is through with death–causing it, solving it, surviving it. Her soul mate, Kye Murphy, is dead–and at Riley’s own hands.  Not even the seductive embrace of her vampire lover, Quinn, can fully ease her mind, for she has begun questioning everything that makes her Riley–including her job at the Directorate.

Now, the ritualistically slain bodies of ex-cons have started turning up.  Reluctantly, Riley takes the case, but something even worse is waiting in the wings.  For a vicious enemy from her past is determined to strip Riley of everything that gives her life any meaning: her lover, her brother–and even her own identity.  Can Riley survive this ultimate assault?  All she knows is, she must fight one last time to find answers, before everything goes dark forever…

Mercy Burns will be released 12/28/2010. We can’t wait.

Review: Dumped! by Dee Dawning

Dumped!

by Dee Dawning

Lila Patterson receives the shock of her life when, after being stood up for lunch by her husband, she returns home and finds her things being moved into a moving van.

Seeing her husband standing on the lawn directing the movers, she storms up to her husband, only to receive an even bigger shock and deep hurt when their lawyer, her long time friend from college, hands her a divorce petition.

So this christmas vacation read Dumped! by Dee Dawning, it was a decent read. However, I have to admit I thought it was a little dragged out. It could have ended a chapter or two earlier and I wouldn’t have minded.
The story of a cheap-ass cheating husband is sad and true enough in real life that is pissed me off a little. Immediately, I rallied with the new couple and hoped to hell the ex died. Too bad I didn’t get my wish in the end.

And her undead heart can’t resist a bad boy with identity issues…

What I liked about this book?

What isn’t to NOT like about this book. WOW, is all I have to say. A demon eating Chihuahua. (That is AWESOME!! I so want one.) A hawt half-demon. And one really crazy chick. Well two crazy chicks but one really, really crazy chick. The sex is hot, action was great and the death dealing was harsh. I love Michele’s books they are funny, sexy and damned great books.

What I didnt like about this book?

Uh DUH nothing. Well maybe that it was not long enough. I would have liked a little more “interaction” with Connor before the whole vampire-demon home invasion. But eh.

Blurb:

Jaz Maloney is the scion to a wealthy Vitala family and all he wants to do is have fun. Especially if it involves Jin, a tall, dark, handsome stranger who totally rocks his world. But the fun ends when an older male Vitala puts a claim on Jaz and attempts to force him under his control. When Jaz refuses the male goes before the senate and, using old Vitala law, destroys Jaz’s family. Devastated, Jaz sees no other option, but to do what this male wants until Master Ryujin steps forward to defend him.

Master Ryujin is only in the city for a brief visit, when he steps in to stop what he sees as a miscarriage of justice. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the male he’s protecting is the same one that caught his attention at a club. But he’s certainly not looking for a life partner.

Ryujin and Jaz have nothing in common, but when the heart speaks, these two men can do nothing but answer.

This was an interesting story, although because it is the first by this author that I have read, I felt that I was missing something. That didn’t keep me from enjoying it, but some history on the Vitala might have been helpful. Jaz is like no other vampire I’ve ever encountered (in books of course) He is the overtly gay social butterfly, rich, spoiled and headstrong, and always seeking attention. If he weren’t from a rich family, he probably wouldn’t have survived as long as he has. Nobody knows there is another, more creative side to Jaz Maloney, and that is the artist Jazon, whose paintings are sold worldwide. That is where Jaz shines: in his art. Unfortunately, he catches the wrong eye and when he repeatedly refuses to be the toy of Andrew Robertson, it leads to tragedy. Jaz has a best friend ands she offers to kill Robertson for Jaz, but he knows that won’t really solve anything. When Jaz meets Ryujin at a club, he falls, hard, but is sure that Ryujin isn’t interested in him. The troubles that ensue because of Robertson’s obsession with Jaz turn the rest of his family against him, even as Ryujin saves him. The passion between these two men is scorching hot, and could just burn your fingers. I only recently began reading m/m romance, and I’m glad I didn’t miss this one. Ms Cease does the sex scenes with taste, and with passion too. There is no “in your face” blatant sex for sex sake. What she shows is love and caring, and yes, screaming hot sex between two people who care about each other. There can never be too much love, right?

Review: Shadowfae by Erica Hayes

Shadowfae

by Erica Hayes

ISBN-13: 978-0312578008

Steal souls.

Live in hell.

Never die.

In a city infested with psychotic fairies and run by sadistic vampire mafiosi, life as a soul-sucking succubus rarely involves lacy lingerie, hot guys or great sex.

Enslaved by a demon lord, Jade must spend her nights seducing vampire gangsters and shapeshifting thugs. After two hundred years as a succubus, she burns for freedom and longs to escape her brutal life as a trophy girl for hell’s minions.

Then, she meets Rajah, an incubus who touches her heart and intoxicates her senses. Rajah shares the same bleak fate as she, and yearns just as desperately for freedom. But the only way for Jade to break her bonds is to betray Rajah—and doom the only man she’s ever loved to a lifetime in hell.

This book was really interesting. I think that it’s the first one I’ve read, where humans are not a large part at all.  Even though I did just say that there aren’t any humans in it.  These paranormals really show the gray areas that, as humans, have in us. There are bad characters showing signs of a morality you wouldn’t expect. While some characters struggles to overcome their inherent nature; others remember life as a human. Remebering the past helps fight against what they are now.

The one question never really answered is just who is the “baddie”?  Its almost like there weren’t anybad guys just a bunch of screwed up people. I like this format I really do. For me this sort of book really fits the definition of urban fantasy. It puts paranormals right slap bang in the centre of a setting that you as the reader can go and visit.
Now, a sex scene is, for me, more sensual rather than the wham bam thank you ma’am. And that has unfortunately been becoming the norm in this genre of late. They suck you in and you just can’t wait to read each line to see where it’s heading.

I must say, about a week after reading this book, I went down to Little Italy for a work breakfast. Instead of concentrating on the meeting, I was looking around at the cafes and buildings and seeing this book. I personally believe that Ms Hayes has taken my home town (well sure I live in the country but it’s the capital of my state) and reinvigorated an area I haven’t been to in years. It really opens the realms of possibility. Bring on Shadowglass Also I don’t tend to read about succubus and incubus. Well, other than the Diana Gabaldon’s Lord John one, I don’t think I have read any. So as my first try read in this genre of book. I have to say that it was not bad.

Princess Watkins knows one thing for sure: she’s damn good at her job. Working as
Dominatrix for her friends, Winston and May Biggers, at their exclusive bed and breakfast,
Suite Surrender, has been easy…maybe too easy. Lately she’s felt like she’s been going
through the motions with her clients. Her bosses must have noticed her same lack of
enthusiasm. Out of the blue they bring in a Dom who is up for consideration for the Dungeon
Master position at the resort, a job Princess feels she’s more than earned.

Erik Hendrix didn’t expect that when he pulled up stakes from his home to work for his buddy
at his resort that he would be competing for the job he thought was promised to him. He
especially can’t believe who he’s competing against, a hot spitfire of a Dominatrix who has
more than captured his interest. With his past track record with dating, especially with
another Domme, that’s not a road he’s interested in exploring.

When Princess and Erik get together, the sparks are undeniable. Can either look beyond
competing for the same position to succumb to their true needs?

Another delightful BDSM read by Bridget Midway. The chemistry between the main characters in Corporate Needs is scorching hot. Not only are Princess and Erik battling for the same job position but the same sexual position as well. It made me want to book a room at the exclusive bed and breakfast myself.

Corporate Needs is the third book in Bridget Midway’s Corporate series. I would highly recommend snagging a copy of Corporate Seduction and Corporate Desires as well. Grab a tall cool drink and a towel for the perspiration these books will inspire.
